Notetaking on Camera Techniques
INTERVIEWING:
• What seven items should you bring with you when you are shooting an interview?
(Clocks Tick Tock Making Heads Pound Loudly)
C- Camera
T- Tri pod
T- Tape
M- Microphone
H- Head Phones
P- Power/Battery
L- Light
• Shooting into a light source?

• On what object should you focus the camera?
the persons nose or iris,
white balance the camera
• No tripod=
bad, always have a tri pod
• Date and Time=
display button turned off, we dont want the date and time
• SP/EP
standard play, extended play

CAMERA SHOTS:
***BACKGROUND:
make sure to have some depth and be away from the wall
• 1 Shot= middle chest to above head, microphones are to be heard not seen
• 1 Shot with graphic= over the shoulder graphic
• 2 Shot= with two people chest up
• CU- close up
• MS- medium shot, waist up
• LS- long shot
• ECU- extreme close up
create series of shots, you want to have all those shots in your story, have all different shots so its interseting
• Rule of thirds- imaginary lines of a shot, work on thirds
CAMERA MOVEMENTS:
• Tilt- tilt it up and down
• Pan- move left and right
• Zoom- getting closer or farther away from the subject
• Dolly- camera on wheels
LIGHTS
• Key- front light, main bright light, and we have one
• Fill- fills in the shadow in t he shot
• Back- separates the interviewer from the back light
MICROPHONES:
• Unidirectional- picks up from one direction
• Omnidirectional- picks up all directions, mic on top of camera is that
• Cardiod- heart shaped mic, makes a heart around them when there speaking into it
• Lav/Lapel Microphone- a mic that you can attach to your shirt with a clip
• Boom Microphone- a mic that is on the end of a pole, you point it in a area and it only picks up in unidirectional
